EatingVLBI 2014: Practical Info

Instructions are still being updated, please visit this page again from time to time.

Current version: 2014 September, 22nd.

The workshop will take place in the CNR Research Area in Bologna, room 216 (main hall, first floor). The CNR Research Area in Bologna can be reached by following the directions given here (but please read below for express directions from Galaxy Residence). The Institute of Radioastronomy is also hosted in the same Research Area.

For participants who will also attend the EVN Symposium in Sardinia the week before, there are direct flights from Cagliari to Bologna, by Meridiana (not on Saturday). In alternative, people can fly through Rome with Alitalia.

Most participants will be lodged in the Galaxy Residence (Via Mario Fantin 15 Bologna, 40131 Italy, Telephone: +39 051 4165911). This is best reached from the airport by taxi, as there is no direct bus route to the residence.  The taxi ride costs about 30-35 EUR; you can share a taxi with your colleagues, but if you have very many pieces of luggage the car might not fit more than three of you.

From the Galaxy Residence, you can easily reach the CNR Research Area with a 20 min walk (an umbrella might be useful). Please find directions through Google Maps here.

The Galaxy Residence is also near a bus stop to the city center. The nearest bus stop is on via Zanardi, for line 18 towards the city center. On the way back, bus 18 leaves from Piazza Roosvelt, very near to the city center. The latest bus leaves at 00:30. The bus stop for Galaxy residence is “Poste”. Bus tickets cost 1.20 EUR, or you can buy a “city pass” (10 rides at 11 EUR). Tickets need to be purchased at newsstand or tobacconist. You can also get the ticket directly on the bus using a dedicated machine, but the ticket is more expensive this way and you need change for that.

If you need to reach the train station, you need to take bus 11 from the bus stop (“Marco Polo” on via Gagarin). Please see the maps here (towards direction) and here (return to residence).

Please note that the TPER bus times are uploaded on Google Maps but information about bus 30 is not correct due to construction work. You can trust information about buses 11 and 18.

We will take care of coffee breaks, lunch on Monday and Tuesday and conference dinner on Monday evening. For this, it is very important that you confirm your participation.

Arrangements for Tuesday dinner and return trip need to be made by yourself.
