Scientific rationale - List of topics

The Istituto di Radioastronomia (INAF) on behalf of the European VLBI Consortium, will host the 9th European VLBI Network Symposium on "The role of VLBI in the Golden Age for Radio Astronomy" and the EVN Users Meeting from September 23 to 26, 2008. The Symposium will be held in Bologna at the Conference Centre of the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche and Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica.

The purpose of this conference is to report on the very latest VLBI and e-VLBI results, including both recent scientific and technical developments in an era during which many new powerful radio facilities, e.g. e-MERLIN, e-VLA, LOFAR, ALMA, SKA, etc. are coming along.

Final programme

The "Final Programme" is available here. The SOC decided to allow as many contributions as possible due to the large demand. The programme turns out to be rather dense and demanding.

The LOC asks for a proactive collaboration of all participants.

Contributions

The meeting will have an informal character and includes reviews (30 minutes), invited and contributed talks (20 minutes), and posters.

During the conference, also the EVN Users Meeting will be held. Users are asked to actively take part in the discussion with comments, suggestions, etc... on the performance and organization of the network. Proceedings

The Proceedings will be published by PoS - Proceedings of Science, organized by SISSA, the International School for Advanced Studies based in Trieste. Number of pages allowed are:

DEADLINE for submission: Monday December 1st, 2008 at 24:00 CEST. Further instructions will be given at the symposium.

Payment - financial support

There is a registration fee which includes admission to all scientific sessions, coffee breaks and lunches during the meeting, conference dinner, and conference material. The registration fee is EUR 200. Due to administative rules ALL participants are requested to pay cash the registration fee at the registration desk. People granted with a financial support will be reimbursed by RadioNet. FP6 RadioNet claim form will be made available.

Venue

The symposium will take place at the "Area della Ricerca del CNR" in Bologna. Extra Buses line No. 87 - CNR will be available from 7:40 to 8:25 in the morning. The bus stop is at Via Indipendenza (a map will be mad available on the web site). Buses will be also available on the way back in the evening, at the end of the symposium last session of the day from 18:25 to 19:25.

Football match

The traditional football match will also be organized. To become football player of the "Giant Stars" team, please register now, and ... bring your football shoes.
